do kites that turn faster necessarily have less power at the lower end of the wind range?
any that don't?

Nope, it seems to be a generic consistency with most of the kites I've tried. Grunty = slower turning.

I disagree. I went out in minimal wind on a friends 14m Catalyst which is a slow kite and was lucky to run out and back to the shore. Then with the same board went out on a 12m Rally and was able to track up wind with a fair bit of working of the kite i will say but the smaller faster kite had more grunt than the slower 14m.
