Hey guys, I'm interested in starting up kiteboarding and I thought before i start spending my money on some gear, I thought I would try get some advice from lots of people so I could get a good idea for what I am looking for. I am good at both wakeboarding and surfing so I'm hoping that i should be able to pick up on kiteboarding quickly once i have mastered the kite.

what gear would you recomend for a biggner? I'm roughly 60 kgs, about 5 ft 9, and I live close to kawana beach so this is the beach I would be doing most of my kiteboarding. I allready have a wakeboard so I am thinking i will use this until i progress enough to justify spending more money on a board. And if you have any gear that you think would suite me then I am very open for discussion about purchassing, or If you are an insturctor that has gear or just would like to teach I am also very interested in getting some lessions. Waroo definitely worth considering. I wouldnt swap mine for anything else! As for lessons, Rhys in Brissy does lessons at very reasonable rates, and he has C as well as flat kites for you to try too. Let me know if you need his contact.

There are a lot of young guy's getting into the sport on the coast lately which is great!
Unfortunatly for some they are not listening to advise and rushing out and buying cheap well used unsuitable kites. Therfore making the learning curve harder and longer.And then finaly once they have kind of got it under controll they relise that they bought the wrong kite.And desperatly want to change it over.

My advise is to get a kite that is easy to learn on but at the same time a kite that you will not grow out of.

When I started I learnt on a Areo 2 they dont make these any more its been replaced by the Boxer.. great kite for learning and progressing.

Also other great kites that you will not out grow are...SlingShot Fuels,Diesels,Turbo Diesels, Cabrinha C02,Switchblades, Naish boxer,Torch, North Vegas....
All these kites are suitable for both berginas and advanced riders for you weight I would recomend a 12m If its a C shape or a 9m if a bow this will suit most days on the Sunny coast coast and will fit in nicely with your next kite latter on down the the track, when you decide to go for a bigger one for lite day's or smaller for when its really cranking.

Remember a lot of times kites are really cheap for a reason. I advise not to rush out and buy any cheap as kite in the frame of mind that "its my first kite and its going to get wreked anyway"
Young guys like yourself Learn fast and you dont want to be stuck with some piece of junk supper low or supper high aspect kite that nobody wants.

There are some really good buys on the some of the kites I mentioned
new and used.
