Hi stu - at your weight an 8 won't come alive until over 15 knots, my opinion is the bigger the kite in suitable conditions the easier your learning curve will be small kites take a little more skill to control and in your early learning stages being underpowered makes it difficult to get going a little extra power certainly helps and a bigger kite will also fly slower giving you more grace when turning the kite. The problem with one kite is the narrow wind range were the kite is going to work best. Squids only works in westerly conditions and any land breeze is normally very gusty. - squids is no exception. It will go from zero to 25 knots in minutes my suggestion is you go bigger and pick your days very carefully squids is not the most friendly place to learn - mainly launching and you will certainly want assistance there until your quite competent in your ability. Ideally you want two kites and the 8 and 10 combo would be a good start or better still a 7 and 10. The rpm is an excellent kite and a great choice you won't outgrow this kite.
8m "come alive" at 15knots.
I'm 67kg, 8m doesnt work in under 19kn or so.
I have a 10 and an 8, perfect sizes for 15-27kn.
