I've cracked and have started hitting up the cable park in Penrith due to no wind in Sydney. I'm looking to get a cross over board for use on the cable as well as the kite. I'm thinking about a 2016 CBL, is there a big leap in tech to the 2018 version? or any other board (eg Gambler) they can suggest. Id rather get a board that is better for the kite than cable but must be able to survive both.

Thanks in advance for your help.

If ur gonna be hitting kickers and ramps a lot, take a look at the Tona Pop....they can really handle a beating

any high rocker board will suck in lighter winds....

Rocker on the 2018 CBL has dropped way down, more like a freeride rocker than a wakestyle rocker. 2016 would be much better bet as cable cross over board.

Hi eddy
I would say get a proper cable board and also a large wakestyle kiteboard.
so you want a cable board that's also a light wind wakestyle kiteboard, to be honest there is no such thing.
The pop is probably the closest as Gilly says, and I used mine when I first learn to cable, and it can be done, but it's still not a cable board.
what you need for a light wind wakestyle board and a cable board are completely different.
A cable board has lots of rocker, way more than the most extreme wakestyle board, it is also really flexible for presses ect, high flex does not go so well with a high rocker board on a kite, and is the opposite to what you want on a light wind board.
If you are serious about getting into cable, get a dedicated cable board, if you are hitting the cable every week, you will probably wear out your board within a year anyway and they are cheaper to replace than a kiteboard

Tona pop goes upwind really well in 30-35knots with an 11sqm race kite.

Actually, another good option would be the DUP Venture cable wakeboard. The larger sizes would beat the CBL in light winds due to the lower drag bottom shaping. I used the Venture 141 as my only board in the 16/17 summer as I was on a kite/cable holiday and was stoked on it for both sports.

The DUP boards are built in the same factory as the Cab kiteboards with similar tech, wood core, PU rails etc.

(Disclaimer: I designed/engineered both the 2016 CBL and the DUP Venture, I also ride/compete in both kite and cable and have been known to design/build/install two tower cable systems)
