In Whyalla SA we see a lot of beginners using the f one bandit this kite will do everything, its simple to set up, has auto relaunch, great hooked or unhooked and suits wake style, freeride and speed! and some surf if you get some. Get a board suited for freeride to get started like a 555 but see your local kite shop and buy a new board to suit you around the 130 + mark finding the right board can make the difference between quick easy progression and walking back beach all season. The other kite i see people doing well on is the best yarga. good luck

I have a similar background to you. My first gear, Waroo 07 13m & TT 140cm. Soon added Waroo 07 9m.

I have been kiting for 3 years and also come from windsurfing background. I started on old C-kites with no depower. I couldn't afford lessons and pretty much learned the hard way but got there in the end What I suggest 4 you is get a lesson even if it is a mate that teaches you. Try a few kites before buying one. I personally woudl highly recommend the F-One Bandit. I have the 9m and only need that one kite. (My weight is 68 kg) It has very good bottom end and can hold it up to 33 knots. Although last years 9m would do crazy things when overpowered above 33 knots but I think this years bandit has improved this. Other than that can't fault the kite.
I reckon you can go with a 11m kite and a board like my Naish 133cm sol 2007 which has a timber construction.

last season i found the 11m bandit to be not as good as the rest as far as range it still had great speed but only worked in a limited wind range. The 9m was a great kite was at the beach when 2 locals went out in 40kts gusting to 53kts but for learning 17-30kts would be more the range. My wife had a 7.5m bandit and i could ride it with a big board in 15kts and up to 40kts with my lunacy 129. So if you plan on only getting one kite i would recomend the 9m if you are chasing speed stick to the smaller kites.

cant wait to get the new bandit dos 8 - 12m just a thew more weeks

rev no doubt about it. wont have to change kites when you get better at it. i fly 13m but for your body weight 11 m would be perfect.

the REV is a sick allround kite and is great for me for freestyle/wakestyle progression, got that deadspot feeling after popping to puul off my tricks.

and as vader said you will learn quickly with this kite and wont be needing to upgrade when you get better.
