Hey fellas,
some on you might have seen the feature on Layke Eyre tonight on tv but for thoes of you that didnt, the place looks preety cool.

There is soo much water there at the moment so im thinking perhaps we could get a convoy heading up there for a bit of 4wd and kiteboarding action.

I thinking the best time to go would be Anzac Long Weekend which is the end of April.

What is everyones opion on this idea?? Whos Keen??

One thing is that we don't get a long weekend in April because the Holiday falls on a Saturday so that doesn't help us!

I'm actually going to head up there in around 4 weeks to have a look myself. I was up there last time it flooded and it was spectacular. I am going to take my gear up there just for the hell of it. You can get some pretty raging winds up there, especially some northerlies etc though it can get VERY gust, as all the wind comes from nothing but land!

The thought of kiting the lake though is pretty cool. How flat would it be!!

Nope, no public holiday this year. Look it up if you don't believe me! It was on the news lst week as traders were wondering if they were going to be able to open or had to close. Compromise has been made in that trader can open from 12 midday.

Yep, Jordy is on the money, NO public holiday Monday. Shops can open from 12 middday on the Sat as well. Sounds like a great idea though.

well fellas, no public holiday will mean probly 2 days off work.

im thinking if we do it, the trip structure should be something like this.

Thurs night: meet at port agusta at 8pm, drive till 11ish, then swag it at a truck stop

Fri: Continue driving to the layke and set up camp

Sat at the lake

Sun: Head hm either doing the entire trip or stoping for the night along the way.

Where about is the closest water body? i.e. How far are we looking to travel?

The map of lake eyre basin looks like a painful, lengthy drive

the drive looks to be 10 hours or so from adelaide. looking at the possibility of belt bay on the southern section of the north lake. have a family friend going up this week who is going to scout it out for me and let me know the situation.

Managed to sail on it. It was fun. Dont particularly recommend it, but you kiters can sail in a few inches cant you?
