There is a good spot on the way in to port augusta caled Port paterson, there is a turnoff to the left just before the weigh station follow the dirt road you will get to a gate with something like beach public acsess go through and follow the fence line to the right the other track is more for 4wds. You will end up on a large lagoon surounded by mangroves with a big sand beach down one side. The tide needs to be in a bit but gives a nice flat water spot that you can touch the bottom. works best with a SW wind. In port augusta there is a couple of spots but i wouldnt call them safe it is verry gusty and there are a lot of things to hit if you dont know where they are. from Port piri there are a lot of good spots along the coast heading towards port germain, near there jety is good.

But if the wind is up you should try to make it to whyalla 70km from port augusta good kiting location in town and lots of kiters to help launch and land your kite works best from the SW as well.
