Shark frenzy near Adelaide beaches
Posted Fri Nov 28, 2008 3:21pm AEDT
Updated Fri Nov 28, 2008 3:20pm AEDT

Map: Largs Bay 5016
Authorities say there have been seven sharks spotted within 200 metres of shore between Largs Bay and Outer Harbor in Adelaide's north-west.

Police say the sharks have been spotted from the air, but there have been few swimmers in the area today.

Some surfers are believed to have been in the water.

Hi the police came to me on the beach (Largs)yesterday and said a light plane had seen 7 sharks swimming together 200 meters from the beach. So we walked back up the beach and went straight back into the water. There were 10 others kiting at the time. The odds were in my favour 1 in 10 chance as I saw it.

i like those odds!
but the fact is sharks are not just turning up in summer, theyre here all year just no one gives a toot about them in winter.

obvious areas like the port river opening and the torrens outlet are reknowned hot spots.
just be careful and keep a look out for your mates riding too.

Our friends the sharks,...

If not for sharks there would be 3 times more people in the water, kiters, surfers, swimmers, goaters, SUP, canoe, ... etc. Just as everyone is sitting at home saying to their wife, boyfriend, girlfriend,... "i am going to take up kitesurfing / surfing this year" Then watch the news in late spring, "shark sighting" - "Oh no I'm not"

I pay tribute to the shark, they save many a kooked up line up from the much more likely event of being beaten to death at overcrowded surf spots.

I'm with Dazza on this one. I have met many an interstate and overseas surfer and kiters who have no interest in coming to Sth Oz. For fear of becoming a Great Whites tooth pick. Let the choppers keep spotting them and keeping many a crew on their skim boards.

hey guys, the shark thing is always around, just this year a bit more than normal. The Westpac Chopper has been seeing a increase in activity this year so far than normal.
Please repect the SLSC dudes and the police if they close the beach, they are just doing their jobs.

But we are in their waters, their homes- but it is are playground for us to have fun.
