Hi,
I'm looking at doing a SUP road trip to Cactus mid next year. (virgin to the region)

Does anyone know what the wind is like around Cactus / Ceduna during July?

Any tips on other good kiting spots between Adelaide and Ceduna would be appreciated.

Cactus used to be a hot spot for sailboarding.
generally sailed on a seabreeze, which is slight offshore at the beach, but the wind is extremely fickle.

The locals also used to be quiet funny about anything other then surfers.

My suggestion is keep driving and play in Esperance.
Warm no sharks and windy.

enjoy

cactus is good for SUP and kiting but locals are protective of there area If you can pop into fowlers bay thats a sweet spot scotts bay need a 4x4 big sandy bay with flat water and good surf in the middle of bay but sharks are freindly but only bronzies they follow you around

Hey HAAK, you'll have to drop by on the way through.

Regarding Cactus and most West Coast surf spots, if there are surfers in the water it would be recommended to wait till they are finished. The locals are extremely protective of their breaks and have been known to get violent from time to time. If you do score, don't go telling the locals that you'll be back next year with 25 of your mates either.

There is awesome spots all the way along the coast. May pay to drop Whyalla or Port Lincoln on the way through for some tips from the locals.

Cheers Croc

Thanks for the replies guys.
All of you alluded to the locals, emm, probably not worth the effort.
Might go to Bali instead.

Hey Croc,
After 9 years of kiting, I finally got to get a kite in Adelaide. Last Friday & Sat week ago at Seacliff.

My son windsurfs, So I kited with the pollies a bit south of the Seacliff sailing club.

I now appreciate the dilemma you guys have trying to educate newbies and some experienced kiters in the pros & cons of kiting at crowded beaches. ( one thing I don’t have to worry about down here)

I did see a couple if things down wind that would upset the locals. Not dangerous but none the less it would have pissed the locals off.

I just don’t get it, why do some tossers have to trick / boost around swimmers and yachts.

Anyway, I had fun and the pollies seem a good bunch of guys.
