These are the kind of tools that will ruin kitesurfing on the metro beaches. If you are one of these guys, pull your head in before f##k it up for everyone else.

What kites were they flying? That might help single them out?

Probably all it will take Jordy, is for somebody just to explain nicely to them the local rules, this is the kitesurfing area and not surfing. They probably don't know or understand.
Mind you if after they have been notified of the council rulings, then they continue to kite there, then with your normal persuasive messaging "do your stuff" :)

often many people using beaches close to the glenelg area are from out of town.
maybe before jumping to conclusions the problem should be addressed.

How does anyone besides us know where they can and cant ride? is there any signs? (Holdfast Bay council.. i doubt it)

bad raps too boys for anyone reading this forum who isnt from SA

Fair point Mate, but most kitesurfers are aware that there are restrictions world wide on where they can and can't kite. The fact there is 3 shops that sell kiting equipment within 500m of the beach, that they could find out such information doesn't help their ignorance argument. I really do hope that they are out of towners or newbies and didn't do there reseach before flying their kites. Lets hope they drop by one of the shops to find out this information soon. Cheers for your input.

Like it or lump it I say.

A lot of boys have gone to a lot of work to make riding at certain beaches legal by both councils and CASA. It only takes a certain few to muck it up for the rest of us. I'm not fussed about driving 30 mins north or south of Glenelg to go for a ride as I don't pay for a drop of fuel to get there but what about the boys who do and what a pain in the arse to do that anyway. I like riding at Henley and Seacliff and want to keep it that way.

Only one council has to ban kiting completely before another council follows suit of the first as a 'knee jerk' reaction. If I was going kiting interstate I wouldn't go and throw up a kite anywhere before contacting a kite shop to find out where to go or jamming a msg up here. A 30 second phone call or a 20 second post is all it takes. Why is that so hard?? Would you like someone from interstate to come to your beach to break the rules? I think not. It makes it even worse if it is a local person riding Glenelg. Are they that desperate for a crowd?

We welcome interstate kiters coming here. We have great conditions a stones throw from the city which is sure to please anyones taste. All we ask is for a post or a phone call to one of the local kiting shops (There are 4 of them) to find out where to go!! Easier still, jump on the SA forum and send one of the highest posting members a PM. How hard is that?

We are self policing and plan to keep it that way. Right now WE have the control. Once we lose that we lose everything else.

Enough said. I'm sick of bloody typing!

i hear both of you.
As all of us would do, travelling interstate, not hard to msg someone and ask.

maybe it was just some chumps looking for a cheap crowd of grannies having arvo coffees at the grand.

remember guys, kiteboarding has never been about the image its all about riding! Right...?

Just a point if you are riding at Glenelg why would you not go to the local shop and ask where you can ride it's like 300 meters away?

El Presidente it's great you want to yell names at people kiting at glenelg, but the SAKSA site lists a few places that there is no kiting allowed, Glenelg hasn't got the same wording as the other beaches, that kiting is not allowed on this beach and has been banned. It is not listed seprately as all the other beaches are.

HENLEY BEACH (Torrens river mouth and through to GLENELG): S/SW
CASA has issued a permit to SAKSA and its members to fly a kite between the Torrens Mouth and Gilmore Street at Henley Beach South. All other areas within a 4000 metre radius of Adelaide Airport are out of bounds.

When the Naish Helix wasfirst released and was being used for demo's in adelaide i was surprised to see one flying pass the end of Anzac Hwy, loaned from the closest shop. since then i have seen others flying there north of the jetty, none this year though.

I personally would not want to kite anywhere near Glenelg or the patawalonga.

Maybe I was out of line - a little bit.

At the end of the day because I am affiliated with SAKSA I feel the need to follow the rules. It gets really frustrating when people don't do the right thing..

On here I am Airush Geoff- I do not log on as the president of SAKSA and I am entitled to my opinion just as everyone else is entitled to theirs.

Thankyou for noting this- it was originally there but some tidying up of the website occurred and it has disappeared, the wheels are in motion for it to be reinstated.

I think its time to wrap this one up. Enough has been said. We know the rules. Locations page on saksa.com.au is being updated.

Looking forward to some downwinders.

For the people that like to read between the lines, in regards to the no fly zone within 4000M of the Airport and unless they have moved Glenelg in the last week.
Glenelg is in the 4000m area.
But the web site is now updated with the proper wording "No fly zone" at Glenelg, sorry about the miss understanding, I thought 4000M ment 4000metres from the Airport Area
Here is the link http://www.saksa.com.au/?page_id=4

So can we put this to rest before i have to list more area "NO FLY ZONES",
If in doubt ask somebody.

Wow. Maybe you should bother coming to some of the meetings we hold or even just the AGM?? Where were you that night?? Didn't see you there... Maybe you should join the committee or even the sub committee so you can have your say and pick up small arse things that are wrong on the website.

What about common sense? Would you go kiting at Main Beach at the Gold Coast with all those poeple running around?? If not then why do it at Glenelg??

We have rules and regulations. Maybe if you are so keen to jump down the presidents throat maybe you could do some of the work yourself to help what geoff and the other boys do.

If you haven't realised, councils don't give a toss if kiters hurt themselves they only care about OTHER people. Compliance and safety guidleines are massive and third party injuries on beaches caused by a kiter could cost the council (and the kiter) millions upon millions of dollars. It's about third party liability (by standers) not the main party liability (ie- kiters) Breaches of these guidelines that councils impose for the safety of OTHERS is something we must abide by if we want to keep out beaches open and accesible to kiters. Maybe when it gets banned and the only place we can kite is North Haven or Goolwa then you can come and grab us all in your car and take us all there!!!!

If you're not going to contribute to the sport by attending the nights and events put on by the people who run it then stay at home and give Mark Webber advice on how to drive HIS car from YOUR couch.

2 things before I turn off my computer and go home for the day-

1) See you at the next meeting and I expect to see your hand up nominating for a spot. If not then shut up and go ride at North Haven or in another state. In fact, no, don't ride at North Haven, I'd hate to see that place buggered up by you as well. I like it there occasionally. And maybe don't bug the locals of another state, maybe just retire from kiting all together. See if the locals at Tannum Sands would put up with your whinging crap. How long would it take before your white arse gets hurtled of the beach?? Not long me thinks!!

2) No ones still has the balls to own up and say 'It was me'!!!

Screw this, I'm going home.!!

And for anyone who is wondering, yes, I'm still in work mode after writing a report on FSRA legislation and seeing how many possible ways there are to get around it!! Since I've been so busy the last few weeks my mind hasn't had the time to think up the boundless amounts of crap and abuse I normally hurl around the place!

Hey Guys

I was staying at Brighton on the esplanade about 200m north of the jetty on the long weekend. On monday morning around 11.00 I was watching a kiter get some pretty good air and he was heading in the general glenelg direction. It looked like maybe a north kite to me, maybe a 10m, not 100% sure.
Maybe this was the guy in question.
Is kiting banned around Brighton?
I am relatively new to the sport and live on yorke peninsula, but i new glenelg was out of bounds.
Probably an interstater that didn't do his research.

Cheers
