[}:)]The scouts are having a world record kite flying event at the Beach House (Glenelg Beach) on the 18th of August 2007. At 1pm

I reckon it would be sick to do a down winder past this event, and show scouts a thing or two about kites!!!!

Depending on the wind conditions, heading from Gladstone Road Somerton, heading north. or Henely beach and heading south.

Meeting at the beach at 1200pm.. Ready to hit Glenelg around 1pm..

It should be fun, and if Holdfast Bay council has allowed the scouts to fly kites on the beach, they shouldn’t have a problem for us going pass….

Plus it will be a great promo event for Kite Surfing

Please put it in your diary….

Hey Mark,

the council is allowing a demo of kitesurfing on the day- one at 11am and one at 2pm I think. There are other demos- ie a sailing race, that a whole heap of kites flying through might interfere with. With the amount of scouts and young ones running around on the beach there is going to be minimal launching and landing space so the idea was to keep the number of kiters small and experienced and bunt off the launch land area. Also the council is allowing the demos so we saw this as a chance to go down and hand out some safe kiting info to interested people, if people understand it there is more chance the Holdfast council will give us back some beaches at some stage. I hope this doesn't sound too negative, it is just a good chance for us to show that we are responsible and hopefully gain some trust !

Hi all,

From the Scouts website under the heading "Windjam07";

The scouts are "attempting to beat the current Guinness World Record for most kites in the air at one time."

Also quoted in the promo is, "Enjoy the kite surfing demonstration, the sailing race the parachuting and entertainment!"

As everyone is welcome to this event I can only assume that the kite surfers will be included in the count.

Its great to see the SAKSA crew coordinating with other groups to promote the sport.

I have been a leader with Scouts for some time. My objective has always been to allow our youth to experience as much as possible of sport and leisure activities.

Earlier this year our scouts (Southern Barossa) were at Henley with Pete Boerma from ONBOARD SURF and Guy Mallet-Warden from RED BARON kite school. Their demos as well as some excellent "impromptu" Kiteboarding on and near the Torrens outlet, gave these young guys something to talk about for some time.

Geoff & Josh are spot on regarding staging the best demo that you can.

This way members of "The largest Youth organisation in the world" and their families, will have that, "excellent, sick, wicked" impression after being inspired to join one of the fastest growing sports in the world.

The "word of mouth" contact from families attending this event can only bode well toward councils considering the sport favourably.

You never know....there may be quite a few adults inspired as well :D]

Gee what's wrong with this state.
Everyone's willing to cooperate for the greater good.

It would be enough to make an east or west coaster vomit.

So many kiters getting along???

Keep it up!!
Making Kiters friends of society is an excellent initiative.
