The trouble with the mid south coast is that we don't really get a sea breeze down here... It seems to stay South east. The sea breeze comes in properly on the beaches west and north of Adelaide. Try Henley,Grange or Outer Harbour from about 1pm till 6pm. Alternatively you could go south to Goolwa or Middleton or head to Milang for the south east.
Moana is a couple of k's north and Silver sands at Aldinga beach is a couple of k's south from Maslins, and both get excellent sea breezes on the right day. Silver sands is particularly good in a southeaster as a katabatic wind streams down from the hills and the locals call this the "funnell". This localized wind can be 10 knots stronger than anywhere else on the mid coast. Also, you can drive your car onto these two beaches. Hope this helps. Check this out
That's true about silver sands but wouldn't recommend going out on a offshore unless you are experienced or have a backup boat. Poleys do the offshores much more than kites. If it goes wrong its a battle to get in with a swamped kite and offshores are gusty which is less than ideal on a kite also. Pleiades, the mid coast gets wind of course but instead of an onshore sea breese we most often get a south east offshore. On the beaches west of Adelaide its stronger and more onshore in summer. Mid coast is great on Northerlies though!
lame! looks like we will be playing in the surf without the kites... no biggie! not like its the biggest vacation, more like a commute says my neighbor!
