Hey everyone

I am completely new to the sport and have had some lessons around Middleton. I'm trying to save up and buy my own gear (which will take a wile unfortunately..). My instructor advised to buy any of the north kites ( I am female, 23 about 5'8 and 63kg), however not sure what size to buy.

Which one would be best for adelaide weather/wind conditions?

Any advice would be welcome! cheers

Hey lovelife,
I'm about 6" and 70kg and I ride a 10m and a 12m Ocean Rodeo Rise, also a 9m Ozone C4.
If you're just looking for one kite for "all" conditions in Adelaide I would recommend either a 9m or 10m for your weight..
As for the recommendation on North.. I have ridden the 2012 Rebel and I'm not a huge fan, i find they are difficult to relaunch off the water as the 5th line tends to tangle.. but that's just my opinion.. Maybe go and test out a couple of kites/talk to some more people at kite shops around Adelaide.
See you on the beach,
Jess :)

Tough question to answer.....

In the winter we would normally get anything from 15 knots to 40 knots plus!!! It depends on how picky you feel like being.... In the summer we get better calmer winds from 13 knots to 30 knots.

Instructors will tell you to buy the same gear they teach on as they will have a deal with that brand, if you are happy with the gear you use then sweet, but I would say to try as much gear as you can to see what the different brands have to offer.

A lot of the Adelaide crew have a few kites, 12m - 9m - 7m which covers all year kiting.

If you are stuck for gear due to price I have a 2011 7m and 9m for sale. PM me for details.

Thanks

Thanks for the advise. I did quite like the north kites my instructor used, I tried out 4 of his kites. However I obviously cannot compare them as I haven't had a try on any others and hence would love to try out some. At the moment i am more thinking of buying second hand one, purely for the fact I probably would wear it out a bit as i've only just started and that I can't really afford a new one.

Just out of curiosity though, did you mean I could try kites before I buy them from shops?

Also, a few people have pointed out that a 9 would probably be best as a starting point. So ill most likely follow up that advise. cheers for all the helpful comments everyone

There are lots of factors but rebels have lots of low end pull and SA in the summer has good wind
