Ive just recently got into kitesurfing and also have recently moved to thornlands so im fairly close to wello point now.

I was just wondering if anybody can give me some advice mainly on wellington point or any other spots close by?

Best wind direction? Tides? Launching areas? level of difficulty and anything else would all be good.

Yeah same rules at vic point as it is redlands council that is making the rules.

As for where to go on a day like today, Wello was great. Suitable tide and wind direction NE made it great fun. Usually best to walk out onto the sand spit to launch. Wind can be a bit tricky right in close and you have no room for error. If you're new to kiting you don't need to learn the hard way from a launch gone wrong.

I have sliced my feet plenty of times so have decided booties are a must at wello. Saves too much time off the water while feet heal. Vic pt I usually take my chances and go barefoot still but there are hazard.

Also good to have a look around at a really low tide. You'll know what's hiding under the water then.

This season is looking good. Make the most of it!

There is a big sign at Wello that says that there is no Kite Surfing allowed at Wello. There are still heaps of people that break the law though. It's the same with having to do 40 through a school zone, I don't worry about that cause it is only a sign

Have a look at the sign closely mate.........its not "No Kite Surfing allowed" at Wello, its no rigging up on the grasses areas. You are allowed to kite there, just set up and pack up BELOW the the high water mark.

Sorry to put down maxy but please disregard everything he said, A N'ly is offshore and you would only head down there if it was Southerly. It is PERFECT in a direct S to SSE any more east in it can get a little bit gusty and the wind can be flukey... as markie said, can be very difficult launching with high tide, large powerlines and what not should make that obvious. Its a great spot in the right conditions and the creek mouth is just butter smooth.

In regards to wellington point, please make sure you know the tides and rig up under the 0.8M tide zone (hard to guess but the sand bar is usually fine and 20+ M off the rock wall/car park is good as well. The rules state that the council can only govern the land that is under the MEDIAN tide mark, not knowing what this is exactly I always play it safe, because they are well and truely wankers 90% of the time and wont hesitate to try and trick you into giving your details over for the sake of fining you (its a $500 fine as well if you get caught so dont!!)

Other then that boots are recommended but it is a magnificent place, you will fall in love as soon as you are on the board.
