Hi, I am new to kitesurfing. I was hoping someone could make some recommendations as to what beginners course to enrol myself into. I have never kitesurfed before and would really like to give it a go! I am thinking of undertaking instruction in early January 2009.

I've searched the web and came across courses with groups like kitethrills.com/ and http://www.sunshinecoastkitesurfing.com but am unsure which establishments are most recommended. I'd like to get up n going with kitesurfing and have noticed that there are variations in pricing between different schools i.e. $400 (kitethrills) to $480 (sunshinecoastkitesurfing).

Would anyone know of any great instructors out there? I live in the brisbane area.

Any help most appreciated!
cheers,
V

hello V,

surf fx on the gold coast conducts "one on one" courses with 3 instructors, "guy", "the professor" and "greeny"

paper, scissors, rock depends on who you get!

Just sent you PM Voirin. We are the only accredited school in the Brisbane region and we run lessons 7 days a week. For Sunshine Coast there's Adventure Sports at Noosa, and Martin at Lake Cootharaba. Gold Coast other than those mentioned, there are Kamakaze Kites, Paul Jackson or Moti at AR Wake & Surf too.

PM us if you need contacts or visit our website for more info.

Hi Voirin

We also offer lessons by fully qualified IKO instructors here in Brisbane. We run a slightly different program here which we have been runnnig in the Sydney Kitepower for several years. We are finding that our clients are up and runnig in a much shorter time, saving money on lessons and enjouying their experiance much more.

We suggest that you start by flying a trainer kite, this is a much smaller safer version of the kites you will use on the water. You can fly on the beach or in parks if you are in land. By flying the trainer for a number of hours you can really learn how to controll and fly your kite with out thinking, giving you more time on the water to look where you are going etc. We have found you just can't get the neccasary kite control after 30mins of flying a trainer at the beginning of a lesson.

This means that by the time you come to the lesson you already know how to fly the kite and we just need to teach you how the water kites are set up and how to use them safely. With enough of your own hours behind the trainer we can get most people on the board in a 2hours private lesson. You can rent or buy a trainer from us at Kitepower.

Please don't hesitate to contact me in the shop for more info.

Sounds great- im interested- can you send a link-?

Im interested in doing a one of those kitesurfing intensive courses- you know the ones- 6 week courses- "zero to hero"- IKO certification 1-3 plus assistant instructor and upto level one instructor.

Ideally im looking to do an internship- whereby I do the course then stay on and log my 160hours to make me comptent enough to do level 2- is this something you offer?

Can you suggest somewher if not!- I like the original poster have no experience but Im willing and able.

Please get back to em- its an absolute minefield trying to navigate myself through the waters of kitboarding certification. I am only interested in get certified by IKO. I fully intend to pursue this sport. Im a chick too! (incidental I hope)

THanks for reading and replying.
