Very new to the kite scene, had 1 lesson looking to finish off the second one with a setup of my own. Guys at surf FX have been looking after me so far. (probably buy through them as they are competitive on price for new gear)
So... Looking for a closer spot to self learn once I am competent to kite without my instructor watching out for me.
Anyone else in the same boat? I'm in Brisbane city, days off during the week and weekends!
Any advice on where to go or anyone keen to ride greatly appreciated!
welcome mate! Sandgate area is closer from Brisbane city shallow water. I believe good place to progress except jellyfish(will go away soon). Gold coast or Sandgate always struggling to make decision as Brisbane resident.. Wish to kitesurfing at Brisbane river haha! This easter holiday~ What are you guys reckon? Redcliffe or Goldcoast??? We are middle.~
Hey another noob here. I too live in the Brisvegas area.
So far I have been heading over to Brighton as there are heaps of people around and I just go out on my own. Someones always there to give you a hand to launch/land and a good crowd to ask questions to.
I also have gone out at Victoria Point - gotta watch your tides and you will need a buddy if you don't know how to self launch/land. Also ask the locals re tides, obstacles etc.
Wellington Point has to be on a high tide and the right breeze, also need to rig below the high tide mark, not on the grass you'll cop a fine. Buddy required.
There are other areas around Brisbane as well but I believe that they aren't really ideal for the learner.

Anything with some East in it is good. Seabreeze actual readings are about 5 kts higher than the wind on the Broadwater as the anenometer is on the seaward side. Green arrows and you're good to go.
True southerlies form a wind shadow around KFC but Shearwater is better albeit choppy. Southerlies also tend to bring unstable air with gusts and squalls.
im heading to brisbane soon, ill be arriving some time in june, i was wondering what the conditions are like this time of year (june -sept)? i read somewhere the wind generally blows off shore at this time, is this true?
