Hi All!

We are coming for a holiday and decided to take our kite quiver with us.
We have 16-18 days to travel from Brisbane to Cairns in a camper and would love to get some kite sessions if wind gods are kind.
I couldn't find much information whether March/April is a windy season or not.
We are leaving Brisbane on 22nd March and heading north in the camper, any recommendations for spots to check out?
Any good sites (apart Windguru Windfinder) to check wind?
Any does and don'ts?

We are confident kiters with years of experience but always respectful of the mature nature and unknown (and known) waters.

Any advice would be great. Not fans of overcrowded beaches but it's more fun to kite with others and to be part of community than hang out if our own.

Here's a couple of links that might help... Getting towards the end of the season (still should be ok) in the south east but more into the season as you drive north so the chances of wind are pretty good. I assume you will be spending some time on the Sunshine Coast but once your tired of the crowds look up places like Elliot Heads, 1770/ Agnes Water, Yeppoon (Central Queensland) on your way up the coast, all quite and you can kite at all of them.

Tannum sands just out of Gladstone [central coast] is my local, Friendly crew, wind around the 15 to 20 knot mark every arvo, Most are on 10m on surfboards or 12m TT., On a big day U might get 7 people out if your lucky small waves and creek mouth. Not much in the way of kite shops so have to send kites away for repairs. No kiting clubs here either.. There is a carpark at the mouth of the Boyne river that u can park up for the night [Shhh don't tell anyone] with a shower and toilet or there is a couple of caravan parks 5 min from the beach,,

Yes repairs and shops all up the coast but just remember you can drive a couple of hundred of kilometres between major towns - off the top of my head Gold Coast/ Sunny Coast/ Brisbane has several, not sure about the Elliot Heads area, Agnes Water has one same as Yeppoon, Mackay, Townsville and Cairns. There's probably others as well and some of these are small shops but help is there if needed.

If you needed any gear/ repairs, my tip would be to purchase at the bigger ones as you drive out from Brisbane.

I'm 72kg and my most used kites are a 9 and 11.

Not sure about kiting clubs as such, nothing in my area but the crew are friendly and supportive at my local beach can't see why it would be any different at any other beach. I would probably use the QLD section of Seabreeze and the local kite shops as points of contact for local information...

If you like flatwater, causeway is good on high tide or sandy point on an outgoing tide is prime.

Bowen. The front beach will be the go that time of year. SE front beach. ESE or E The Don. Get on to FB Blowen Bowen Kiteboarding.
IMO one of the best spots for kiting in NQ!

Thank you! We have actually been told by our non kiting friends it's a nice place to stay overnight close to Airlie but less busy and cheaper! Delighted to hear kitesurfing is great there too!
Are stingers much of a problem?

Dont kite with the locals infront of the surf club. ****ed if ill ever understand why they kite there.

Theres the exact same spot but better as it has toilets and grass and **** just further down the road (north) its prime.

If its to southerly go to xianin? Xingnang? Chinxan? Some chinesey sounding beach to the south. THATS a local only sorta beach past the budgerieguard ****ing town or whatever that ****s called roses? Who knows been a few years. Its right next to a tiny little island probably only 15 minutes kite out. Margret? Eliot? Macgregor? One them olde english ones.

Anyways if your feeling adventurous look for an island called pumpkin? Dunkin? Its secretly "XXXX island" which one of our major brewerys bought. Being ****ing irish polish im sure you know that allready kaska
