Very concerning this to apart from the Theft of Wavebreak Proposal and thanks for sharing Philnot.
Kite Surfers and Wind Surfers are a sport that also brings great benefit and dollars to the Gold Coast community by way of locals spending there money to support local businesses and visiting state, interstate and international Kite and Windsurfers injecting there money into the Economy as well. In addition to this our sport is of Nil or one of the lowest environmental impact recreational activities on our waterways as opposed to all other forms of high impact, high problematic and polluting watercraft.
There is absolutely thousands of nautical square miles of waterway in our Broadwater system able to be fully accessed and used by the heavy impacting and polluting watercraft already and no or minimal justification in creating need for any more and squeezing out low impact water craft and water users from the areas they have been using for well over the past 30 years. The whole Western corridor of the Broadwater from the said boat ramp location at The Train through to Sovereign Island should be reserved and preserved for low impact water craft and water users (ie, Swimmers, Canoeist, Paddle Boarders, Kiteboarders, Wind Surfers and Sail Craft) if the Gold Coast Waterways Authority had any brains and enough foresight apart from current boating access points and moorings. Moorings are another issue that are unsightly and high polluting impactual. The Waterways Authorities would be far better off wasting tax payers dollars on dedicated pontoon strip type moorings in specified locations and condensing the room taken up by the 'Off The Pick' type mooring sprawl and mess that takes up way to much of our waterways as it is and recover some of the tax payers money invested by leasehold.
Like Philnot says in his draft presentation the Waterways Authority would be best off wasting more tax payers dollars in upgrading existing facilities. Like they have plenty of room to increase the boat ramp facility over near Bums Bay (over near SeaWorld for those unaware of the name) into a super 4 or 6 lane ramp instead of the current two. It's tucked in out of the way there and there is ample room to increase the parking also boats have quick and easy access to the main channel and fuel facilities without having to negotiate in and around any natural occurring sand bars. Also there would be less impact on traffic congestion for trailer boats accessing the road system out to the spit area instead off increasing an already choked road system out in front of The Train area.
Please keep us updated on this Philnot and let us know if support is needed as it would be important for not only the Wind Surfing community but the Kiteboarders to get right behind this also if our location is to be threatened by bureaucratic and bloody short mindedness.
