Haven't kited for a long while, so I am a bit out of the loop.

With the NE coming, anyone knows whats the situation in the Currumbin outlet?

With the newly formed swimming pool in the mouth, there is only 50m of water to go back and forth in anyways.
Is that what you are lamenting losing the use of?
At the moment you can walk out on the sand, there should be no need to do 20 laps of the inlet to get out.

So as I see it, the inexperienced are the ones playing in the area concerned because it is flat water, along with a few show ponies that think that the public are taking photos of them doing tricks because they are impressed, when they are actually using the photos as a basis of complaint.
The exact type kiters that you really don't want to have with kites above members of the public.
Those with poor control and those pushing limits.

So there is no access problem here for legitimate kite usage. Yet.

Having witnessed a couple of renegades doing jumps over the roped off swimming enclosure with their kites looping over top of mums watching their little ones in the water where the riders were crashing, there is no wonder that pressure is being brought to bear about usage here.
I saw whilst watching from the Palm beach side, that another kiter came down and deflated one of these guys kites and told him to get out of there and good on him.

last windy day there was a kiter doing lap after lap of the flat between the rocks.
Every time he changed direction at the southern end, the kite was above general public.

This is just a dumb thing to do.

I live up on the hill and can see the antics whenever the wind comes up.
I resist the urge to go learn a bit of kiting in the estuary when there is nobody around and this lovely knee deep water to play in.
So frustrating to then see blatant risky usage against advice still going on.

In any sport other than football or cricket, access to places to play is one of the most important considerations.
Kiters are a minority.
Kiters are perceived by the public to be dangerous in some circumstances.
Kiter don't have that much in the way of quality places to operate.

Why the fruck then do some put this access at risk?

20 kiters can have a ball there and usually do when the wind kicks up, but there is always one idiot that pushes the other user groups buttons and does laps in the alley or even worse, goes dodging kids further in.

I have pictures myself of kiters in the estuary during the Australian surf life saving champs, dodging in and out of competing kids and parents.
C'mon, if the place is full of kids and parents, just get out of there.
If you cannot kite out with the bigboys in the proper ocean, then learn a little restraint and wait until you can.

Please consider everybody else in this equation, when you have a kite above you, you are a representative of ALL kiters.
Please show some restraint.
Please consider other user groups of the area.
Above all, please consider the rath you may bring down on your fellow kites.

Ain't me mate.
I have a stake in Kiting at Currumbin, no way will I instigate a formal complaint.

But I can see the problem here and it is up to the kiting community to fix it in house before being told that it will be fixed in a way that may not be to our liking.

Yup, can prolly get a copy if u like......

Have also read correspondence by GCWA and GCCC from 2007? after a particular incident there.

The area has been under the microscope for sometime now, lots of cameras around.......have even seen the clubbies gathering evidence of bad behavior.

Only hope is self regulation.....if u see someone doing the wrong thing, pleeease let them know that their actions may cause a total ban

Yup,,,,,was a boooOooostathon as u can see by the graph.....

best spots for waves are going to be hard to get to due to car race,,,,unless u can get down relatively early

looks like we may get between 15 to 20 tomorrow so fingers crossed....

anywhere from the spit to miami for waves,,,,shearwater (tide affected so after lunch will be crap) and loders creek (not tide affected but low tide is smoother) for

flatwater fun....

pm me ur number if u want anymore info or some local crew to kite with
