I haven't been to Shearwater for a couple of years but I see Mars Attacks, from his anonymous profile on Seabreeze, has criticised people teaching kiteboarding to students at Shearwater on 29 December. He has described these people as instructors but he does not identify them. He also mentions a very serious accident a few days prior without any knowledge of the circumstances whatsoever.
If Mars Attacks is genuinely interested in addressing his safety concerns then he should properly direct those concerns to the individuals he has criticised so that a constructive dialogue and resolution can take place. As his post stands he simply invites divisive and damaging forum discussion within the kiteboarding community.
Further, serious accidents should not be used as an opportunity to gossip and offer conjecture about the causes, particularly when the victim is unable to respond.
In regard to the near miss involving an inbound kiteboarder that Mars Attacks describes, it is perhaps relevant to note that rule # 1 in the IKO handbook (4th ed.) states, “the rider entering the water from the beach has right of way over the incoming rider”.
Toddy, it is and was not my intention to be devisive, if this were the case then many, many posts of the past could be interperated the same, like in Kite Surfing General Forum, "Kiters ruining for us in Narrabeen" or "Saw some tools at South Beach Freo Xmas" to name but a recent few. Merely pointing out and reporting as it was on the day, in the light that those instructors may catch wind of my post and possibly exercise some future concern. Yes no one, including myself went to address it directly on the day with those Instructors as this has not been a regular occurance at Shearwater but I'm certain under similar circumstances I or others would. As for speaking about the accident, there is a previous post "what happened at Shearwater today" one or two posts below this one, that I was not going to go over old ground. About the injured's right of reply you mentioned, I'm not sure what that has to do with my topic post at all. As for the attack on my Anonymous profile, what's yours Anonymous I suppose as for the vast majority on this Forum? Please accept Toddy I am not here to argue with you, just stating my case and reporting the facts as I saw it for information to our Kiting community that I hope will have some educational benefits that may save some one else from being hurt or injured.
