Hi all,
I'm heading up to Airlie Beach at the end of July/early August. Is there any good kiting around at these times? And are there any places that will rent me a board so i don't have to bring one?

Cheers, Josh

Hey Josh,

I live on hamo and yea she's pretty windy out here on th islands always a few knots more than the mainland. If you get a chance get out to whitehaven beach if you can it will be unforgetable.

On the mainland Conway beach is sweet on a medium to high tide. low tide is a fair treck out to the water.

Airly itself is a bit ****ty offshore most times and heaps of yachts to wrap your kite around. Never seen anyone kite there yet.

Ive kited at Dingo beach and hideaway bay b4 it was ok but low tide there are a few bits of reef you need to wath out for

Bowen which is just a bit north has a sweet beach Queens i think it is called and normaly it gets a similar amount of wind as we do out here on the islands.

Have fun and let us know when you are up me and my bro both kite up here and are looking for other crew to kite with on our trips back to the mainland.

Matt

Hi Matt. Im at Airlie at the moment and planning on going to Conway tomorrow and the wind looks ok. I went out to Whitehaven a couple of days ago but there was no wind. Im here untill Tuesday morning so if any one is keen for a session then i am in. I dont really know the place well so kiting with a few locals would be great.

I am making my first visit down under in mid-August. I have business meetings in Sydney during the week, but plan to spend two 3-4 day weekends on the Gold Coast, starting in Brisbane. Is mid-August a good time for kiting? if yes, will a quiver of 7, 9, 12m keep me on the water? Will I need a wet suit? I am bringing a friend who wants to take beginner lessons - can you recommend a good school? Can you recommend any good hotels? islands? Happy to buy you mates a beer after a good day of kiting.
