Hi guys,
My partner and I recently moved in the area and would love to know where you guys are kiting at the moment. We are still learning and have seen kiters at Paleranda, but not Alva as yet due to distance. I saw one kiter at Bushmans Beach but isn't that croc territory? Saw another at the Ross River mouth, again isn't that croc land? So where is it safe for beginners right now, or should we wait a few months? Also is the ski park worth a go?
The winds here have been pretty good from SE to NE, but they dictate different locations each time I imagine.
We are a mature age couple keen to meet local kiters in Townsville. Maybe pizza and beers one night? Anyway... Take care out there.
Cheers

Ok.. ok... I get it. It's not the season now with these damn Nth winds and possible cyclone Evan in 2013.

Thanks Caney. I am meeting Marvin soon to discuss options, etc. It seems he is really the only choice around here. Nothing against InTheLoop, as I am sure I will be in good hands, but I was hoping others would be more forthcoming with their views / suggestions.
I am new here obviously, and the NE's at the moment make it tempting to find suitable bays and beaches, but to avoid being croc'd or stung, I thought I would ask here first for where are *currently* the best places with these N/NE winds. BushLands seems a good choice, but I've heard there is a croc down the beach closer to the point. Urrrgghhhh... I just wanted some advice.
No dramas intended. Thanks anyway

palleranda beach is the best place to go as its close to town, and always someone there. its good surfing there in just about everything that is not a westerly. if u live near bushland beach try it out dont worry about crocs and sharks thy are a part of life, i seen a 3m shark at the strand, cought off the peair, so every where is as dangers as every where else

Thanks Amos. Coming from relative "safe" Vic waters, I am not used to seeing sharks or stingers around me. I have a full stinger suit and booties (I hate em!) but they are essential this time of year, so I'll just have to just get out there and give it a go - even on my own if I have to.
ps, Not sure why T'ville is obsessed with lavender on a funky Friday though! ;-)

Alva beach at the southern end of the river is one of the best spots we have found as there is flat water, plenty of room to launch and land and little crowds. Just have to watch out for quad bikes and fourbys. ( this saturday is looking pretty good) palleranda is good but tends to get a little busy on windy weekends. Bushland beach is ok if the tide is right and your not dragging your gear through the mud. (haven't seen any mud geckos yet)
Good luck.
