the islands make for some pretty hectic kiteing and ive converted to about every religeon i could think of crossing that whitsunday channell several times. if your really going to have a go at it tho get a scamper for 80 odd bob take a tent and 5 days of food and live on whitehaven beach for the week. just be aware there probably only going to give you 20l water and thats all youll get. national parks will sting ya a fiver a night. your better off walking the hour walk from camp to the inlet then trying to kite it as the treeline makes for some pretty strange gusty launching conditions. i did get sick of the walk and would driftlaunch it out about half way once you clear the windshadow from the little mountain near camp. just be aware your on your own and i believe this time of year your just going to be a bleeding ravaged mess from the sandflys. they dont **** around
What Kozzie said about the islands, whitsunday! if you are mobile Mackay, Bowen, Alva are great flatwater spots. Conway backs onto the Prossie river which has some crocs, Midge point can be Ok, half way to Mackay Best o half tides running out

you never do see them thats the point had to jump on a cane train to get away from one once in strathdickie near there
If you come to Bowen, head to the Don river mouth/ Yasso point. ESE or E is what you are looking for up here. We don't bother going out in N's. Winds crap and stingers. Get on to BBK fb page and message them if you want to know what the conditions are like before you head off. Hopefully see you around??

Hey guys. I'll be cruising the Whitsundays 2nd week in February. Can I expect wind and is it worth putting my gear in? I'll be on a yacht with a tender so would appreciate any local advice.
Can be a hit and miss this time of year. Wet season usually produces Northerly winds which are no good or absolutely nothing. Cant say bring your gear or not, as it is unpredictable especially in Feb. March onwards for sure but Jan and Feb it's anyone's guess. Got to ask yourself the question.........."I might take it just in case"
Thanks Mex. I suppose I'll check out the forecast just before I leave, see how much room is in the car also. Will I need a stinger suit that time of year? Read some travel forums that said yes, but friends who we're going with and have done it before say no?
If you have one you may as well use it. But none of us have been stung yet. Just be carefull of northerlys. Think thats when the stingers might drift in
Agree with Wallis. For some reason they don't seem to be around in easterly winds. In saying that if you swim in a very protected area where the water is dead calm definantly wear a stinger suit. Irakanjis love calm/still waters. Take one with you. We have had only 2 good afternoon and one OK session so far this month. By the looks of the forecast that is all we will be getting for January with rain and northerly winds for all of next week! Hopefully it will pick up in Feb.......fingers crossed! Hope you enjoy your holiday, it's a beautiful part of Australia.
Cheers for the info. I'm pretty sure the bareboat charter co provides stinger suits. I'm a very occasional fisherman, but I guess it would be worth taking some gear? I know it's a different topic altogether, but any info would be appreciated.

Just don't bring your girlfriend unless she's able to tack, respect right of way and go upwind properly.
