Hi guys,

Wondering if I could have some advice?

Planning family holiday for a week in August with wife and two young ones.
Family chasing good quality accommodation, with services.
I'm chasing surf and some down the line kiting!!

Any tips on where to stay and if north or south stradbroke would be better??

Never been to either straddie islands and never heard of crew kiting there (seen all the surf on offer of course).

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
cheers
wes

hey wes, have you got a 4wd ?
There's lots and lots of beach for down-winders !
North Straddie -
It might still be blowing slightly west in august, but you should be able to find a few spots.
Be careful of amity point, very sharky !
Otherwise main beach around to cylinder is awesome for surfing.
South straddie is less developed, i'd stick to north straddie, if your taking the family. More accommodation, a few restaurants, bakery, servo and so on. Its still quite small, but there are great houses to rent.
The first pic, is from a house I stayed at in February, overlooking cylinder beach - i can give you the details if you want.

thanks mad

no 4WD - will be flying in to Brissy (got FF points to burn)

there's a resort on south stradie that looks good - think this is going to win out - it's place that is set and forget

north stradie still possible though - looks like more surf and wind angle options there - many crew surfing?
I'd been keen on a house but the bride is looking for something serviced

errrrrrrr amity point - have heard it's gnarly

You would be much better off heading to Fiji in August for all of your requirements I reckon - and still probably get a lot more value for your money for everything.

Stradbroke Islands are great Summer spots - very average winter spots.

If you're heading to Couran Cove Resort I would leave the kiting gear behind unfortunately.
