Personally I stay away from Hawk's Nest... has been know to have a few sharks around at a pretty decent size.
My choice location in that area is the Fingal bay spit.
Sort of depends on what side of the Bay you are staying in.

If your just after flat water Jimmys Beach in a southerly . If wind is NE over on Shoal Bay side would be better , wind is cross onshore both locations . If your after waves PM me .
Staying on the north side of the bay and Jimmy's beach looks great on google maps
