Hey all,

Grew up in Australia and spent 5 years living in Denmark.. The surf is pretty **** over here so I got into kitesurfing

Looking for a tip as to where to ride in may after I come back for my brothers wedding?? Would like to stay on the East coast of Australia.

Prefer flat water or kickers for freestyle but always happy for some kite loop sessions out in the surf:-).

Experienced kitesurfer who is used to riding in tricky situations, would just prefer to avoid the crowds. Anywhere particularly scenic?? I would like to film a team Kitedamnmark project whilst down there too:-)

Thanks for you tips in advance!

Unfortunately it is the wrong time of year for most of Australia. You could try far north Queensland you may be lucky.

Best bet would be flatwater sessions at far north Queensland , trade winds start around that time.

its pretty simple. summer windy south cairns winter windy north cairns. may is on the cusp. the wind therefor is also on the cusp. is may winter now? or is it still autumn? regardless your trades dont kick in convieniently till winter aswell....almost like the seasons are somehow related to the position of the earth around the sun and that some how effects the pressure ....

In Kozzie's defence he is 100% right. The trade winds don't kick in until mid - late June and last through to Sept. You may be lucky in early June but generally May is a waste of time. That is why most kite tour operators in the Pacific Islands don't start their tours until mid - late June. Same in FNQ. May in Australia on the East Coast is mostly going to be low pressure systems as the sea breezes are typically gone by then.

Gee , both Australian Kitesurfari and the new tour operator reefadventures start their trips in MAY , I wonder why . Could it be because north of that saturated wet sponge they call the Daintree theres another world , try it some time .

My info has come from an old local I met at Archers . He hates that it blows for 200 days of the year cause he cant get out fishing ,his words not mine .
Sorry for this thread going way off track Leigh , hope you enjoy your time here in Australia

Wind graphs for Cape Flattery Far North Queensland for the month of MAY

This pretty much sums it up whether there is wind up there in MAY or not.
