I can get the day off and the forecast looks promising. I'm keen on a trip to altona in the arvo. Anyone else likely to be out?

I was thinking of heading that way after work around 6pm...which would be just after low tide. Does Altona need a bit more tide? Or is low tide ok?

I think there will be about 1,000 people there given the forecast.

Just remember Altona has had its unfair share of people getting into trouble there, kites in trees etc. If you're not familiar with it, please rig up on the sand island on the west hand side (walk through the shallow water south of Apex park) on to the sand island.

Thanks for the reminder SaltySinus. Don't worry, I'm familiar with Altona - just not been there during the week before.

stok - If you like flat water then high tide is better. If you're ok with waves then low tide is fine. You just need to walk further before the water starts. Look out for sandbars though. But if you're not familiar with it then what SaltySinus says is relevant. People have been in trouble because of the narrowness of the main beach and the fact there is a road and houses right behind it.

Sounds good, I'm a fan of waves so I'll be on it!

Opted out for the arvo session, looked a bit too gusty for me!

One query - what's the best check for altona winds, laverton or fawkner beacon?

I find the Altona sailing club weather station the best

Was nice. Not quite 1000 people but enough people around to help with launching/landing. Got a bit windy towards the end so I came in.

For the weather readings, I think fawkner beacon is the best out of the ones that seabreeze shows readings for for altona in a SE.

Altona was epic tonight, fully depowered on my 8m and I was still powered to the max. Dunno how windy it was but I reckon 30 knots easy when the stronger gusts came through, boosting in big wind is fun ....
