If you are annoyed like am you should send letters to the Bayside council protesting about the weekend parking restrictions on Beach Road.

Today would have been an excellent kiting day if you got out early enough. Having to wait until 10:00 means I only got 15 minutes of kiting before the wind stopped.

In the hot months people will be wanting to use the beaches early in the day before the peak UV and the hot part of the day.

Beach Road is the only access to the beaches and many beaches have little or no off street parking. Certainly the kiting beaches have none at all. Beach users have no alternative to using Beach Road. Cyclists can ride any time they like and ride anywhere they like.

It's not right to restrict parking on Beach Road until 10:00 am. Ending the restriction at 8:00 am would be better. The cycling masses could have their pelotons from 6:00 to 8:00 and leave the road for other users later.

I am a cyclist. I do a 50km round trip to work each day, on a road bike. I only ride on the road after 7:00 pm when the evening peak has cleared. It works fine for me.

Well said Gorgo.

Cyclists are narcissus's and have a very warped view of the world. Plus they make a point of riding over your gear even if it's just on the edge of the path on beach road.

Lycra sweaty fat boys. ( I trust your not in Lycra on your way to work??)

I'm happy to abide by these rules as long as cyclists do the same. It seems they like to be considered cyclists when its convenient to them, then cars, then pedestrians. I know not all cyclists are guilty of this but they are quickly becoming a law unto themselves.

Gorgo did you really sacrifice a session because you couldn't park right on Beach Rd? There's any amount of parking within 2 minutes' walk of Beach Rd.

I don't know if the lycra brigade are more narcissistic than kiters, but now that it's the new golf for the corporate boys they sure have more political clout. Try getting recognition let alone basic infrastructure as a regular commuter cycling group in a less affluent area - it's an uphill battle. Try getting a lane opened for yourselves by the beach even when there's already a cyclepath beside it - easy if everyone in your club earns squillions and is hooked up with the old-boys networks.
