From DEPI twitter feed
Beach goers should keep an eye out (and their distance) following reports of a number of bluebottles washing up in Port Phillip Bay yesterday. Several bluebottles, pictured below, were spotted at Altona and other beaches nearby.

I had the pleasure of doing a face plant in a dense colony of jelly fish in St Kilda the other day but they weren't the stinging variety. They are out in numbers and were probably more shocked than I was. Yuck.

I never heard of blue bottles in Melbourne but here is the picture from DEPI.

See them in summer sometimes, generally around the coast when the wind conditions are right, but they are smaller than ones up north. Haven't seen them the bay before.

Bluebottles are the ones which float? If so haven't seen any of those yet at SK.

I was shocked by the amount of jelly fish I could see under the water at SK, makes me focus on not crashing!

Down on the Surf coast especially around 13th Beach and Ocean Grove, youd be getting a Tatts ticket after your surf if you don't get one wraped around your foot!
I had one wrapped around my lines the other night, was an interesting experience.
I would say every square meter of beach has at least one blue bottle ATM

They sting for hours

Excruciating!!!
I was body surfing in South Africa and tried to go under a very unlucky wave, got 7 blue bottles wrapped around my body, arms, legs face and neck. Thought I was dying. Pain was severe for the first 2 hours, subsided slightly after that for the next 2 hours...

Biggest tip if you are ever stung is as soon as you can after getting the tentacles off, is have the hottest shower you can stand focusing as much hot water on the area as possible. I've had heaps of stings while living in nsw, and this seemed to work the best
