hey cezary,
Brighton is usually good in a Southerly, South Westerly, Westerly and North Westerly some people also ride ther on a straight Northerly but I find it very gusty in this direction.
Brighton is an ok spot ........ it is deep, meaning for the most part you can only stand for about the first two meters so you should be reasonably confident at water starts and relaunches.
Reef - There is a reef which is sometimes exposed to the south east you can get some flatter water inside this reef but there is not much room, so watch the rocks.
Other places worth checking are Hampton ( far end of beach towards the Sandrigham Yacht Club ), Ricketts Point ( in front of the surf life saving club, obviously not if the flags are out but have a chat to them as they will often accomodate you the clubbies that is ) Seaford ( Gnotuk Ave ), Mordialloc ( melbourne side of the pier ) Altona..... etc....
good luck
