This message goes out to sailor of an 11m Fuel, sailing at 1pm today.

Here are some tips to avoid getting our water sports banned:

- You dont sail between people playing in the 1ft shore break.
- In particular, you dont kite anywhere near kids, especially when they are under 5 years old.
- You dont sail within 1m of dogs swimming.
- You dont attempt handle-passes with the kite diving with 2m of someones head.

How about thinking of others' safety...

First of all stop whining and secondly kiters arent a hulled vesel so stop being so ignorant by referring to us as sailors. Sounds like to me you didn't take the more practical approach and have a chat to the parties concerned at the time.

Maybe you need some updated info on the classification of Kiteboarding. They are and always have been a Vessel and subject to all maritime navigation rules and laws.

And if mathew takes the time to post this then it must have been serious stupidity going on by the kiter. Many times there simply is not the time or opportunity to confront the culprit on the spot.

But I rekon it was Saffer at least his other persona.

900 posts for a persona? I'm too lazy for that.

Surely mathew wasn't that busy pole dancing to reiterate the key points regarding 'unsafe sailing' ... and yes I'm aware that kitesurfing is gazetted under the same maritime laws as most other watercraft, but we're not called sailors

Thanks for the heads up mathew.

Next time yell and scream at the idiot or take a knife to his kite.

Seriously Melbourne is getting full of idiots and not a place you would want to kite anymore sadly.

Its not hard to show people respect and stay away from swimmers. Even if the idiots are way out in the water, its onlyngood cause to have us banned.

Mathew would appear to be correct kiters are sailors

Collins dictionary definition of KITESURFING:

- n, the sport of sailing standing up on a surfboard while being pulled along by a large kite

Webster dictionary definition of SAILOR:

1: a: one that sails; especially: mariner b (1): a member of a ship's crew (2): seaman 2b

2: a traveller by water

Melbourne is not alone with the issues raised by Mathew, ditto for the same caution at Pt Danger, Torquay, try and stay seaward (sailor terminolgy ) of the two buoys positioned off Pt Danger (Cosie Cnr) and Yellow Bluff, used as markers for powered watercraft to stay outside of and a swim circuit for the crew training for ocean swims and recreational swimmers. The leeward side of the buoys is littered with kids, swimmers and beginner surfers and has very a dodgy windshadow in southerlies anyway.

This summer has seen the biggest beach crowds (and kiters), at Pt Danger/Cosies, that ive seen in over 25 years living here, mainly due to the ring road completion and huge population growth. There are plenty of launch/land options without putting others in danger at Danger ! especially at high tide, just ask a local for advice.

Still a great spot for a variety of winds and waves or flatwater options.

Kite safe, sail hard, keep smiling

^^I guess I'm wrong then. Probably worth reposting this issue in the sailing forum.

Just responding to the various questions....

We dont need to yell and scream, bail people up, or general nastyness - it could be as simple as someone just not understanding the impact of their actions -> I do dumb things all the time.

In the meantime, I'm sure there will be random chats on the beach with folks that might read this thread... it is just aimed as a reminder to all of us that (ignoring our own safety), we shouldn't impact safety of other beach goers.

In regards to "where" - doesn't matter, just be aware of your actions (and before anyone asks "photos or it didn't happen"... they were taken, then deleted when the outcome was ok).

The where part was more to try identify who it was. I don't have any issues believing you, I've seen kiters do enough dumb **** to have no doubt.

Oddly enough, it seems like some types of kites tend to attract these dickheads more than others, a little like hoons are attracted to certain makes and models of cars. Fuel's are one of those examples. I.e. fuel's seem to attract the dickhead's who do dumb **** to try impress people (small dick syndrome), cab's attract the idiots who do dumb **** because they're still learning although the cabs is probably a result of numbers.

Sorry Matthew gotta disagree with the where comment, not everyone reads forums and we need to keep our beaches open. If we know the where we can have a chat with our Fuel flying friends and let them know that some poor action has been noted and drawn some negative attention...

Hey Saffer you forgot Cabs and trees... (BTW I fly Cabs ...)
