I haven't kited at Altona too much, but last time I was over there I couldn't help but notice the huge flat water out on the lake just as you come down Millers road.
Now I look at KBV location guide and there are some little markers of some kind on the lake shore.
Is it possible to kite on this lake? Has anyone actually done this?
Not sure I'm keen to rush into it as it looks a bit stinky, but curious none the less.
Cheers

from Wikipedia:
Cherry Lake is part of historical coastal wetlands in Altona, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia. The wetlands were converted to a lake with construction of retaining walls, levees, and flow channels. The lake and surrounding reserve is an important wildlife habitat and popular recreational destination.
The lake was created in the 1960s as a flood retarding basin for residential expansion in Altona and Brooklyn.
Levees were constructed on the south and east side of the lake with a spillway and channel which discharges excess water to Port Phillip Bay. These help to maintain a relatively constant water level of around one metre in depth. An additional higher levee bank was constructed to prevent floodwaters from Kororoit Creek sweeping across the lake toward residential areas.
Recreational and community use
The lake attracts boats, windsurfers and anglers.

Apparantly the locals used to windsurf in it, but stopped when they all started getting sick.
Have a look upstream to the petrochemical plants & make your own judgement.
I wouldn't kite it personally - the water is cloudy and you have no way of seeing what may be below the surface in the way of obstacles etc.
