Hi, I`m from Chile and I will be living in melbourne from July 15th to December,
I know the wind season start in december, but is it possible to kite from July to december? should I bring my kite?
One more thing, where is a good place to live near a good spot in Melbourne?
Thanx a lot!!

Definitely bring your kite. The wind starts blowing more consistently from the south, good for beaches around Melbourne, around October and you can kite from July until then whenever it is windy in any direction because you only have to go a short way around the bay for the wind to be ridable. A good place to live for six months would be StKilda or somewhere close like Albert Park or Port Melbourne. StKilda is the main spot.

For summer I think the best size kite to bring would be a 11 or 12m. I weigh about 85kg and I fly a 12m kite most days I ride in summer, but if your lighter you could probably ride most days with a 10 or 11m.

ditto on this message.....just heading home from the columbia gorge in Oregon, USA where I have been learning to kite. Still in the slightly kooky phase.....but need to get and ride NOW before I lose momentum. Probably moving to St Kilda. I have a 7m/9m. Are people out and riding?

It's a little on the cold side for most at this time of year with the bay temperature at ~11-12ºc, but if you don't mind that then there's been a heap of strong fronts recently producing 20-30 knots in various directions.
I'm still kite-groundboarding until the water temperature starts to rise again, then i'll head down there with 4/3 and booties and get back in the water. :)
