Hi all,

Ventured down to Inverloch today for what i thought was going to be a good little session after work.
Willy weather was showing an easterly 19knts at pound creek, launched my 10m kite but suddenly things seemed very different.
There was a dark cloud in the distance but nothing too major and they weren't getting any closer yet the wind/sand was stinging my feet and face.
Only lasted 20mins out there due to being very gusty and very low tide with a fast current.
Is Inverloch generally like that on an easterly? Does Pound Creek give a true indication of wind speed in Inverloch?

Ill add that I've only been boarding for a year.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I will respond (with caution) that in my experience the easterlies can get pretty nasty down there and they are gusty. I was on the bay tonight overpowered on a 9m so must have been high 20's a friend of mine was on a 6.5m. If you look at the pound creek shows 17 with 25+knot gusts and Wilsons prom around 35-40 at the same time. Not sure pound creek is the best wind monitor. You are probably better off looking at WP and taking maybe 10 knots off, even so would have been 25-30 so a 10m probably too big.

Best not to just rely on wind meters either. If the sand is stinging your face you know its windy.

Long way to go for an after work session (unless you live down that way....)

I like inverloch in a sw when it blows up the estuary. Then you get flat water behind the sand banks and its not gusty.

I use the BOM wind map, it includes inverloch and will give you a pretty reliable forecast within 5 knots. Actual wind is tricky like others said as the wind meters are quite far away.
