Yo!!
Hi new to this forum, From Ireland and planning on moving out to Australia.
Mates(non-kiters) already there or in the process of moving so they all going Melbourne. I'm think of going End of December/January.

So mostly into freestyle and wakestyle so flat water or kickers and a nice stong 20-25knots. I Cannot live without kiting so of it aint worth it i wont be moving! prob there for 6 months too

Questions:
what are the normal conditions
what weather forcast ye use and do the predict the sea breeze (beeing from Ireland know nothing really bout thermal wind and sea breezes)
what kite size ye use the most?
What are spots like close to melbourne
Any Irish kiters
and wakestylers?

Cheers for any info and advice!
If anyone wants to know bout ireland let us know! its not a bad kitesurfing ireland at all!
Cheers Baz

Summer 15-30 knot sea breezes

Best weather tool is BOM. Do a search for BOM, Wind and Melbourne

Most common kite size for an 80kg rider = 12m

St Kilda, Brighton, Altona most popular spots close to Melbourne

Sure there are Irish kiters but nobody wears country orientated gang colours on the water so it's difficult to tell. Should be easy to spot the people kiting with a pint of guiness in their hand though.

Lots of wake stylers although very few kickers/sliders

ye our seabreezes as saffer said do range from 15-30 (very rare) usually around 17-23. Best spots are St Kilda and altona for flat water on a seabreeze and when northerlies come through go to rosebud or pt henry although brighton is the closest by far its a terrible place to kite unless you have a good bit of west in the northerly.

Couple of Irish kiters at St Kilda and plenty of others from the UK including me :D haha.

If u weigh 80kg as saffer suggested ull be good on a 11 ish most days, i weigh 70 and my most used on a seabreeze are 11+9.

cheers for te help

ha i only want to know who is irish so went we go party ill need someone to keep up wiv me!

yeah im about 80kg but like riding quite lit specially in boots! if i get out on 9's and 12's ill be happy once there is wind! but **** ill miss irish 7m days wit 35+ knots.

last question to bring gear or not? its alot of travel but looking at your 2nd hand forum prices looking the same as ireland! I have 2010's 7, 9 and 12 cabrinha switchblade. if i sell them here ill prob only get half the money back that i payed.
that leaves me bout 2000euro (if im lucky) for all my gear (two boards - wakestyle & freestyle, boots, harness etc) which is about 2700 dollar but to get the same back i prob have to drop a year or do the shops have good deals on new!

oh and one last thing is it worth bringing my 5/3 wetsuit for winter???
cheers again for replies

bring your stuff, u wont get a whole lot for 2700, unless u get older stuff. 5/3 is what i wear in winter and im pretty warm in that. u only need that from may-september tho, otherwise a shorty should be enough apart from the odd day. If your here over winter you'll get a fair few 35+ knot days and even the odd couple through summmer.
