I know these posts usually jinx the wind, but where will you be headed?

Rye, Rosebud, Point Henry or Brighton?

Forecast:

Saturday 3 September
Northerly 20 to 30 knots decreasing to 20 to 25 knots during the evening.

New Bom Forecast is saying more like 30+ knots!

If the forecast turns into crap, the Wainman dude will be a banned man
Fingers crossed that the Nemesis can live up to its name this Saturday.
There has to be one epic Northerly session this year..

Never kited PT Henry, I suppose on Northerly it might be 3 knots or so weaker than Rosebud, a bit gustier but with somewhat flat water. Can anyone confirm?

haha, yeah I just had an old cab slaughtered In the presence of a rabbi. Point Henry
is crazy flat but there no beach and u launch adjacent to a car park which doesn't leave much
room for error due to the flanking gum trees. maybe I'm being a bit of a pussy ?
It did recieve more wind on a NW than what mornington did on Sunday. Judging by the colour codes its going to blow a hell of a lot more down near the coast.

How's places like Inverlock and Sandy point in a northerly?
Looking at google map, sandy point looks to have less upwind obstructions in a northerly... anyone have any experience in this departement?

Good question. I suppose you could ride on the other side of the inlet for both spots;
I'm guessing it might be a little gusty?

Mmmm bound to be a bit gusty. Been to both prior to taking up kiteboarding. The terrain up wind at sandy point is pretty flat & unclutterd compared to Inverlock.
I'm thinking about risking a trip....

Sandy Point can be damn sweet in a northerly. I've ridden there on a couple of occasions when it's rolled through with 30+kn. If it's got any westerly in it then it'll be gusty and nuts, but if it's got some easterly in it then it'll be awesome.

Tks koma, I was there once in a strong westerly - nuts like you said.
Thanks for confirming my speculation.

Inverloch doesn't work with anything thats got North in it, Sandy Point can be ok in N/NE.

Flinders, the inside bay where the jetty is, looks like it could be good in a NE as another option.

Also if the tide is too low for Rosebud, move a couple of Km's further down the coast towards Rye and that area holds deeper water at low tide, still a few sand banks to watch out for.

The Rosebud carpark kiting area looked nuts to day, looking up from Rye I have never seem so may kites out

Didn't head to sandy point, ended up at rosebud ALONG WITH 3/4'S OF MELBOURNE'S ENTIRE KITING COMMUNITY!!. Swarming like locusts and Winter was only 3 days gone! (What's it going to be like when the weather properly warms up?) Really enjoyed kiting throughout winter depite some large gaps between sessions. When the wind was up, it was up!

It was a great day on saturday. Obvious that people had been hankering. Everybody was in great spirits, with lots of kite powered grins being exchanged. Love the comaraderie - it's a fun family to be in

Wow. I almost had Brighton all to myself. A crankin 30 knot northerly for most of the day, pretty knarly at times. At no time was there more than about 4 kites on the water.

I know what you mean. Ghost town at Brighton. No complaints here though.

Yes, Brighton was not too crowded, and the wind was definitely challenging. Got some nice pictures though, and even made it into the Heraldsun!

Brighton is only difficult if you stay too close inshore. You need to stay out of the wind shadow of the yacht club.

Ride up a little to the north, offshore from the yacht club, and you get smooth winds, stronger winds and pretty decent waves.
