KBV is about to sign the new affiliation agreement with the Australian Kite Surfing Association [AKSA] - this agreement ensures that KBV members are afforded reciprocal rights interstate with other AKSA-affiliated Kite Surfing Associations [KSAs] and sets out some basic mutual obliogations between AKSA and KBV.

The Agreement (as well as some KBV comment already sent to AKSA) is available for your review and commment in the 2009 folder of the MINUTES & REPORTS section under ABOUT KBV.

Late addition: There is a requirement in the model rules that AKSA is operating under. that AKSA members have to be natural (ie direct) members, not affiliated via the state Kite Surfing Associations (KSAs).

This means that every member of a KSA has to have their membership nomination forwarded to AKSA by the KSA. AKSA has the ultimate right to refuse membership. [There is nothing to say that AKSA also has to supply the reason but more importantly this means refusing insurance.]

So, membership has to approved by the AKSA committee to allow you to be a member of AKSA (ie to have insurance cover and reciprocal membership rights across Australia).

A statement to this effect has been incorporated on the KBV site and on our membership form (on the AKSA site).

Assuming the agreement applies to all states - good on KBV for opening up to members. I looked at the document and will have same questions of my own to ask AKSA.

Sounds like AKSA is taking over the role of the state associations???
Would be a lot easier if AKSA delegated membership approval to the state associations?
OR
simply went for a direct membership model and save the state associations a lot of trouble??

I know some state association bods who would rather be kiting.....

Feel free to pass on Affiliation Agreement questions to KBV as well.

We have not heard of any "nationalising" plans from AKSA - if they are put to us we will assess them on the basis of benefit to the membership. Meantime its Business As Usual...
