Hey Sandrino
If it is blowing a SW, SE or S there is always people at Aspendale/Gnotuk Ave. Bunch of friendly regulars there, just introduce yourself.

See ya there, Thursday is looking good.

Cheers

Hi!
Don't go so far!
Seaford is a good spot.
I kite either at the Bowling club if there are not many people or close to the Rivera Bottle shop south of the concrete water inlet.
From there until Armstrong Rd it's an official shared wind sport area!
You can also sail-in the bottle shop after a good session.
I've seen plenty of kites there.....expect some small waves there...

Hi Twist! Is Aspendale working on a SE? I thought it's offshore....

I've done it, it is offshore, and wasn't ideal, but it flattened out the chop which was nice. Also according to the wiki it is fine: www.greenlivingpedia.org/Victorian_kitesurfing_locations

But yeah there are better spots to go in a SE

Hi Sandrino,
The spots at Carrum and Aspendale are best to start with as there are normally more crew there but don't worry once you are more confident and experienced any where from Frankston down is awesome to kite, miles of uncrowded beach to choose from depending on conditions

Hey Nigel

Is there generally less chop/waves at Carrum than Aspendale or is it much the same?

Basically the same, it depends more on wind direction in relation the the beach.
As you said cross shore will flatten off the water, especially closer to the beach.

I wouldn't kite based on a wiki... Anything with too much east in it is not good at Aspendale it becomes too offshore, you need to head up to Mentone, it's works ok until it is even more easterly. stay away from Ricketts Point until you have a lot of experience under your belt...

As with any location spend some time watching the local crew, check out kite sizes they are using etc. if no one is out chances are the wind is not working at its best for the location...

Lots of open beach along this area so take some time and walk up the beach clear of the life saving clubs, they are pretty tolerant towards us and we want to keep it that way. Have fun see you on the water...

Hows Aspendale/Gnotuk Ave for a relative noobie? Forecast SW tomorrow looks promising, and as its atleast 1/2 the distance to either St.Kilda or Balnarring would like to give it a crack.
Im still getting the hang of getting up and going down wind and have kited Rosebus StKilda and Balnarring, but would prefer a more localised option.

Thanks in advance, Cheers Steve

Expect more waves the those other lOcations
If your not confident staying up wind walk upwind south up the beach and only kite till you get near the carpark again, that way you stay out of the no boating area, away from most people / swimmers and away from the dangers of the boat sheds, power lines etc

How is Aspendale on a pure Westerly? Is there somewhere better?

I'm thinking Balnarring might be a better choice? Although it means a longer drive for me.

Thanks

Welcome Nobs!
Seems since somebody from Vic tried to tell you off and go back to the WA forum you are now like a permanent member of the crew over here!
Please feel free to contact me if you wanna go kiting at the Creek. I'll give you a hand starting the kite and pick you up downstream as well as giving you a free ride to the ER as YOU will be sick afterwards!
So ...really... feel welcome here whenever you come over!

Lol, thanks for that CS. After my lesson today which halled me out the water onto the beach, I have no idea how people can kite in a creek
