I just though I'd have a gloat because I had a pretty epic weekend of kiting at Sandy Pt/Waratah Bay

Friday, 20-25 knot easterlies. Small surf. Strapped surfboard. A couple of lazy whales flopping their tails about to check out.

Saturday, a morning surf on my new surf/strapless kite board, then 10-15 knots on the Sector doing speed runs the full length of Shallow Inlet.

Sunday 15-18 knots doing floaters off the waves on the Sector and carving neat little re-entries on 2-3' surf

Sounds like you had a great time.
I'm camping at Warratah bay this weekend but I've never kited there.
Any usefull info would be appreciated,
Nigel

Not a lot to it really. For surf and ocean kiting you move around the bay between Waratah Bay and Sandy Point and find your preferred wind direction. I've never kited Walkerville and I doubt if I would go there because of the rocks and turbulence. The usual spots should be ok for any winds you are likely to get.

Shallow Inlet can have a touch cleaner wind than other spots and you get flat water to play in.

Watch out for high tide. You can lose your car at the inlet. On the bay side the beach can be a bit narrow for landing.

Watch out of low tide. You can run out of water in the inlet.

Stay away from people fishing on the beach and in boats.

There's a weather station at Yanakie which seems to give a fairly reliable reading for the area. www.bom.gov.au/vic/observations/map.shtml

BTW I think there was a "rule" to not launch/land kites in the parking area at Shallow Inlet. I've never bothered with the rule and just do what I want provided there's no traffic around.

You can walk to a good clear spot by heading around the dune to the right past the "no cars" sign.
