Next weekend is my last weekend in VIC, and it looks like it's going to be a cracker all the way to the end. Hopefully it doesn't fizzle out like the last few weekends.

Thanks to everyone who launched me, landed me, gave me pointers, and helped me out! In the 3 months I have been here I went from a beginner working on my water starts, to a kiter working on unhooked rolls and raileys. I can only attribute that to the consistency of windy days down here, and awesome spots with awesome people to help me out.

Cheers!

What crew 'taught' you may I ask? And what spots?

Not really 'taught' me in the conventional sense. More passing time with conversation waiting for the wind, giving basic tips and pointers. No names exchanged, just chilling out and talking crap

Really friendly bunch of guys at Altona, and Pt Henry.

I managed trips to Ocean Grove, Pt Richards, Altona, St Kilda, Rosebud, & Rye. But I would have to say my favourite place was definitely Point Henry. Some awesome kiting there, great flat conditions, nice soft muddy landings, and low crowds. Also the gusts keep you on your toes

That's a fast progression, well done.

I presume you managed to get out a few times a week?

If I was lucky I normally managed a few hours on the weekend, and a session or two during the week. I normally throw myself into these sorts of things, probably because I have a non existent social life

Zarb, it's been a pleasure. Fly safe,... both back to JB and on the water.

Yeop... that's the plan. I've a mate who lives in G'gong, so no excuses for me. Are you driving home, or flying? Any airports to speak of between Melbourne and G'gong,... ?

Point Henry is nice in a N'ly. I'll be headed there in the afternoon on Wed / Thu / Fri. Should be there at around 3pm? Rosebud is a bit to far for me to do in the afternoons. Sunday perhaps.

Henry is awesome in a N'ly. Wind is a bit more stable than the W'ly, water is super flat closer to shore, and has some nice kickers further out.

Drive to the very end of Pt Henry Road, it turns into an unsealed road. Drive down a small hill and turn left straight after the toilet block, into a little turning circle / parking area. Setup area is the grassed section in front of the carpark. You can't really set up on the beach because it's too narrow and weedy.

Yes mate it's my favourite location. The river mouth works the best in a (rare) Easterly and a really strong updraught can form inside the bluff which means HUGE air! The more frequent westerlies are not so good due to the bluff causing turbulence and you have to move further down the beach towards the main beach (which can cause some surfer agro). Southerlies are also good.

Get yourself a good tide chart as most of the beach from The Dunes to RAAFS disappears on a high tide.
I moved down this way 2 years ago and have not looked back, there are just so many awesome locations down here and I will take the purity of the ocean over the bay any day.

PM me if you want to hook up when you move down, there is a very small local crew down here.

Low tide is @ 2 in the arvo + a SSW wind so yes it should be good at RAAFS (last carpark before the Barwon Bridge)

13th Beach should also be good, as will Point Impossible.

When I saw this thread start and progress (including references to dartboards and arrows) - I knew the wind was doomed for the weekend.

Hope you had a good final couple of days Zarb.

And I am with others. To have progressed from water starting beginner to unhooking in 3 months is a great effort.
