Hey,
I'm looking at starting kite surfing/boarding before or during this summer. There are lessons available, but it???s significantly cheaper if you share with 2 or 3 people.

Unfortunately none of my mates are interested in this sport.
If you???re up for getting lessons they are around $280 each with two people rather than $400 yourself. Just send me a message or post here.

Cheers

I thought this too..

But - you usually take it in turns so you only get half the teaching time.. and the other half you are standing around watching your mate learn..

some people learn from others mistakes quickly. Others dont.
It depends on how enguaging your instructor is and how good you concentration levels are.

In general 1-1 is better than share but not for everyone.

Cheers guys.
Yeah I learn from doing things myself, so 1-1 is it.

It's not really that much more, hopefully Monday will be a good day to get lessons.

Mate you need to shop around. That is a rip off.

I would hope the $400 dollars covers 7-10 lessons

Yeah I thought it was a bit steep also.
Go Kite does 5 hour lessons for $395
and Kite Republic does 5 hour lessons for $429

Any suggestions on how to get these prices down? Are there other places rather than St. Kilda within Melbourne for cheaper.

Teach your self how to fly a kite, any kite with 2 lines. A stunt kite 1m wide or a traction kite 3m wide. Anything with 2 lines. Kiteboarding is ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL about Kite control, the rest is a piece of cake.

Fly that thing blindfolded, only then get lessons. If you are a gun at kite flying then do it in pairs or solo as lessons are about safety primarily and teaching you the steps to get you riding on your own. After your lessons you need to have your own gear ready to go. Get straight back in the water and try to remember everything you heard. 1 or 2 people makes no difference.

Go kite republic. Big crew, social days, clubs, weekends away, kite camps, pub nights. Get to know fellow kiters. No other school offers that!

All about kite control.

He's right. If you can control the kite in all conditions, then you can kite anything even on land - like me!
With kite control you can do jumps and all the tricks that go with the kite. Back rolls should be easy once you have the kite under your power.
If you shudder at the kite and the power of the wind (note I said wind - not kite), then you are not ready for kite surfing.
Even a trainer kite is not enough IMO. You need the real deal - harness, a real kite, board, choppy water, good 20knots and practice, prac, prac, & more prac

I suggest to have them break down the 5 hours into 3 parts.
I don't like the way they teach kite control straight to body drag and water start in one straight session. these should be broken up into separate lessons where you can practice each part before proceeding to the next.
i dont see how anyone can get on a board when they haven't even gotten a full grasp of kite control or body dragging.
