A mate and I found a kite board bobbing off Elwood this arvo whilst windsurfing.

Hope its rider made it back in one piece.

Give me a description if its yours.

Any chance it's a Naish Money Shot? Lost it out in the middle of the bay today - so could have ended up anywhere! :(

If you put your name and phone number on your board you can be contacted directly.

Lost and found unclaimed boards should be reported to the Water Police as they could be associated with a missing kiter.

And to re-iterate an earlier point made by Peter, one can use a enable based paint pen from Bunnings or similar to write your name on your board, and remove with Turps if/when you come to sell it.

I struggled to find these pens in Bunnings until I realised 'Grout Pens' are just enamel paint. Probably a good idea to put down a buddy you always kite with and a loved/liked-one that is more land based.

Don't let your wayward gear trigger an unnecessary search and rescue. It will put pressure on the kiting community and exposes life saving professionals to the inherent risks of their roles.

This is all said in good nature and is not meant to sound like a rant. Just better to prepare today for events for tomorrow.

Write your name and number on your kite also for the same reasons. This is essential if you kite in any offshore wind (not recommended) or your are doing long downwinders

Much easier and less hassle: Put a strip of clear sellotape on the board, write with a waterproof pen, put another strip of sellotape on top (clear of course), done!

I use small aluminium dog/pet tags engraved with ph and email ( about $4 each incl engraving on ebay ) secured with a cable tie on foot strap (TT), leggy plug (SB) and ring on harness, quality permanent marker on kites.

Email helps if your travelling o/s, in fact I put email on all valuables when travelling, dymo labels work well inside cameras, etc.

You should report the board as found. The owner may be checking with the Police and not looking here.

Just a tip for the finder, most people wont know this, under Victorian Law (sect 74 Crimes Act) if you find property (any value) it should be returned to the owner or handed to police, if not the offence of theft is complete, convictions have been successful in regards to this.

Police will check lost/stolen property reports an attempt to locate the owner, if the owner isnt identified and/or the property isn't claimed within 3 months, it can be then handed back to the finder if the finder wants it, you are given the option to "claim" it if the owner isnt found within 3 months, when you hand it in.

Do the right thing, hand it in to your local police and the owner might get it back or in 3 months you could be rewarded for your honesty.
