Yes this is very disappointing and WHY???

There are many kiters that use this spot for parking and kite set up on the grass every time the wind blows. You guys and gals will see next time you try and park. This is the road parking beachside between the Savoy Hotel (Wellington Street) and almost back to the Brighton Beach car park (Keith Court).

I cannot see the rationale here...

I have queried the rationale with Vic Roads today and await a reply.

Should we start a petition?

If this is the reason?? It is getting out of control Next it will be single lane from metone to port melbourne It has started at Metone AND the fxxxes dont even ride on track"What"we hafto park opposite side and get run over by car or truck crossing the road, Note it is not for Brighton cyclists ,its for all of bayside and more that ride along beach Rd

So is there any practical way to kite at Brighton without forking out $14-90 parking?

Get off your soap boxes... There has been a clear way along beach road on weekends for about 2 years which finishes at 10am. This is the only thing put in place to help protect for the thousands of cyclists who use beach road, yes I am one of them. The new no standing and meters are not connected. The single lane on beach road at the corner of Mentone is not new and has also been place for probably 10 years.

I suppose all the parking meters put in the numerous car parks along beach road are also because of the cyclists....

Revenue no doubt............ All along the coast there are heaps of empty parking spots but local gov't cashes in. In St Kilda you don't have to wait long before you are fined no matter how many empty spots there are available everywhere.

Last year the VIC gov't came in with an unexpected surplus due to speeding fine revenue.

Happy to sign any petition going.

Will have to park on the side streets and cross the road then... or just park and hope there isn't a ticket inspector while your kiting.

So I wonder if it would help anyone if a local was to scan their window sticker (or if there'd be an repercussions).

So they've also installed 1 hr parking limits on the side roads around at middle brighton (with a couple of small exceptions) this totally sucks bay city council...Nice way to penalise folk getting out there enjoying the bay.

I wouldn't care if it was a couple of $$ per hour but $4.5 is outright ridiculous.

Wonder what the locals think of the extra traffic outside their homes.

So I followed this up with the council when the changes first took place and was told by the head of this department that this was because the road was a traffic accident problem. No mention of meters but alas they have recently appeared.

Council now openly admit and as reported in the local papers they are taxing those that visit beaches from outside the area. They have to upkeep beaches facilities etc and detail plans of improved amenities. I can see some logic here BUT let's wait and see what happens to the amenities.

Problem is that kiters will just populate the side streets and the residents will see increased traffic and congestion.

When Kingston Council first installed the ticket machines in beach side car parks they also cited amenities etc. etc. but even now many years later the amenities have not changed or even been upgraded at most locations.

The car parks are full of sand that blows up from the beach and never gets cleared away, just another revenue raiser as far as I can tell...

Yes, very disappointing indeed. Side streets are now 1h for 200m from beach rd. I also find it quite dangerous crossing the beach rd ouround Brighton Savoy.

Also picked up an issue when I tried to go through in the morning for a session. The kite beach is no parking until 10am (on a weekend) which makes it hard to get a sunrise session in.

In the carpark or out on the road? Can't see any reason why the carpark would have restrictions...

I know a number of resents near and around Brighton beach and they are VERY upset with all the additional traffic and cars parking in the side streets. Lets hope they keep complaining but I del the decisions will not be reversed. The parking inspectors will double or triple their salaries with commissions so they love it. It's just a shame you can't just pull up and enjoy the bay.

IF THE resents keep complaining The council will have reason to put in place resent parking only in side streets Mother f####s

The new paid parking on beach road, and the subsequent 1hr parking on all side streets 200 metres from beach road is annoying everyone, especially us here at the Brighton Savoy.

The bayside council's paid parking policy is making no one happy.

I suggest kite surfers impacted by this polict approach the local Leader and Melbourne weekly newspapers, to let them know how you are being adversely impacted by this appalling policy.

The Brighton Savoy is also lobbying bayside council for changes albeit with minimal success
