There's a fair bit of ranting and raving here about people should do this, should not do that.
I'd just like to say as a second season kiter, 99.999% of people I've talked to on the beaches and on this site are ace. There's been some really positive and useful information given, and just wanted to take a moment to say thanks!
I think it's like anything. 5% of the population giving the rest a bad name. Same as the issue with Muslim where people become racist. Most of the muslims are happy to fit in, etc and a minority messes it up for them because they're bogans and a waste of good doll money.
At this point, I don't think the solution is licensing to solve Vic problems. If it was me I would force people to do a test which includes common sense and attach them to a lie detector so we can gauge who are from the shallow end of the gene pool and not fit to partake in any activity which imposes risks to the community. Questions should include:
1. Chicks will dig me if I kite close to shore in between swimmers because they think kiting is cool. TRUE/FALSE
2. When the beach is packed with bathers, it makes sense to self launch in the middle of them with extra points for launching upwind of small kids TRUE/FALSE
3. People who need lessons are uncoordinated idiots. It's easier to learn on your own at a packed beach TRUE/FALSE
4. Jumping over windsurfers or swimmers is a good show of your skill TRUE/FALSE
5. It's acceptable to short tack because you work hard and deserve as much of the flat water as possible TRUE/FALSE
6. I don't care about bans because I'm not from Australia and if beaches get banned, I won't be kiting here in a year's time anyway TRUE/FALSE
7. Listening to lifeguards when they tell you to move away from swimmers is for idiots. Anarchy rules! TRUE/FALSE
