Thanks.
The south Melbourne is very attractive to me. Sounds like reality is I would have to keep my car if I plan on kitesurfing.
In the city, where is the launching/landing area. Is it along beaconsfield parade? or more in the st.kilda area?
Depends on the wind and the weather. St Kilda is the main spot although its busy unless you get out during working hours. There are other spots like beacon's cove, port melbourne nearby if you are prepared to put up with a bit of chop but its recommended to stay away from shore to avoid annoying lifeguards.
Cars give you the flexibility to travel to places like Altona (about 20 minutes from the city) which has awesome flat water or to go to other spots nearby for northerlies (Brighton). There are also awesome spots within 1-2 hours of melbourne which are worth going to. (Inverloch, Rosebud, Point Henry, Point Danger)
