I very fresh newbie who is hanging to hit the water (literary!!) at the weekend. Can anyone recommend a good spot. I'm looking for a place I can't make too much trouble.

(had 8 lessons, this will be my 2nd time out with no instructor)

Where are you located in Vic?

I'd probably stick to St Kilda until you can go up wind comfortably. The other options are Hampton and Brighton in a SSW but they aren't that noob friendly (short beaches with rock groynes(not sure if that's the right spelling?)).

Cheers Brohan.

I live around Black Rock. Yeah I have heard that Hampton and Brighton aren't great for newbies. St Kilda is great but very busy. I was wondering if there was anything past Black Rock?

Past Black Rock you have Mentone and Aspendale (Gnotuk Ave). Aspendale is the better of the two for a learner.

Rough time of year to be learning and it can be dangerous with the gusty winds. Also, forecasts seem to less reliable this time of year.

If you can afford it I would suggest cuddling your kite on land for a while and then do a trip overseas to take advantage of the trade winds. One week in Fiji will cost about $2.5K for everything (flights, food, bed, boat support, instructors on hand) and you'll probably get out for 2 solid sessions most days. Easy to progress in those conditions.

In my opinion the best spot for you is Rosebud. Shallow and flat water and no real trouble you can get into. If you drift too far you just walk back.
