Parks Victoria are currently rolling out the changes to the no boating and swimming only zones along the beach between Mordialoc and Seaford. This includes adding some new no boating poles and moving others.

Be aware that the local land based police are totally misinformed about the situation. Currently the no boating poles have been removed from Gnotuck St beach, and according to the Parks Vic maps will be slightly relocated back in the same location.

The local police informed us on the beach tonight that the changes are due to local residents petitioning the local council to ban kite boarding. They do not seem to understand that this is not a local council issue and relates to other changes, they have indicated they will be enforcing the bans particularly when the beaches are busy. They are not so concerned at other times. They believe the council will erect signage to this affect shortly.

Hopefully when the new documented no boating posts are installed it will be clearer to all.

This is possibly a good thing.... Hear me out.
People that are new to the sport tend to get down to these types of spots on busy warm days when there's a slight bit of a breeze and crash there kites into people enjoying the beach
Putting these bans in place helps to eliminates these incidents.
Hearing about kiting accidents is bad enough but when the general public get hurt its a whole new problem!.

When I say bans I mean partial bans when the beaches are busy.
A full time ban would suck balls

You are emissing the point, Parks Vic are doing their upgrade of zoning but the local police have misinterpreted this as a council imposed ban which, by the way, the council cannot do because it is outside their duristriction...

Assuming the 'balls sucking' is a metaphore... and it's just a couple of 'safe non-boating areas' then I agree totally. That stretch of the bay has shallow beaches at high tide that could become a zone which is one of danger if someone's kite drops due to low wind/low skill.

It would be good if dedicated wind zones could be setup along there to reinforce the sentiment of give and take...

When Parks Vic were in the planning stage a few years back I attended a couple of the workshops as a KBV representative. At these meetings we were asked to nominate areas that could be assigned as wind sport areas. Lots and lots of locations along This whole area where nominated but the only areas that made the cut where at Parkdale yatch club where there is a fleet of one design sailboarders whole race and down at Keast park in Seaford, 2 small areas for that entire coast.

I bet ya the people who are complaining are also the people who are not swimming between the flags. If they stuck to swimming near the surf clubs there wouldn't be a problem.

Yes sorry I did miss interpret it smithy, was trying to type that last night while watching paranormal activity... yeah I know its about 10 years old but I have never seen it.

The police are still imposing a new ban that either came from the council or parks, either way they are still imposing it.

Gnotuk is a great spot with plenty of space for lots of fun, would hate to see it go bad.
It would be great to see a break wall down there one day to create some calm water and be able to separate beach users to water sport users

These changes to the poles / zones took place in Seaford / Frankston last year with no major consequence to the small amount of kiters down there.
Gnotuk has more kiters and beach goers and it sounds like some local residents are upset so the outcome could be different.
The best thing is for everyone to be on their best behavior, especially on busy days so no one has anything to create a fuss about.
Would be a real shame to see bans a Gnotuk, it's been an unofficial water sports zone as long as anywhere else!

Yep the summer drunken hoons have wrecked the automatic gate yet again. The carpark was open last night but closed this morning, it would appear that the police had the the signs printed and ready to go.
