Hi,

I was kiting in Rosebud near the pier last time, because there is a large grass area for launching. Unfortunately it is directly in front of a water outlet..
Does anyone know more about this, i.e. if or what kind of effluent is discharged, and if it is safe to kite there?

id say it would be much safer than the skank that comes out of the st kilda west beach one, that drain is rank. Probably just storm water but i don't know for sure. Did it stink? any reason for your concern? (did you get an ear infection/sore throat?)

Nope I did not get sick yet.. I didn't even see water coming out of the outlet or smelled anything. Just wanted to be on the safe side.
I am not keen to kite in wastewater, but especially at high tide all the beaches down there are quite narrow for self launching/landing.

hmm yeah that one does look a bit suss, maybe ring the local water board or the shire council and find out. Let us know on here too!

Seems to be ok, this is what they answered:

The outfall Drain which is Rosebud Pier only discharges storm water run off. The water quality in the Bay is monitored by the EPA, who advices the general public through the media if there are any water quality issues. Please refer your query to EPA, www.epa.vic.gov.au , 9695 2722. Thank you.

rosebud water is like the cleanest in the bay...... thats not saying much tho hahah, unless it starts gettin cloudy (like st kilda) i wouldnt worry coz i have only got sik from st kilda once and that was most likely from the dredgin and it was like 1 year ago, and rosebud is sooooo clear so it must b ok.
