Hi Guys,
Pretty basic question here from someone wanting to start trying unhooked.
My kite is a North Evo 10m 2012 with bar 5th element.

How should I set my safety leach? standard or suicide?

I understand that at an advanced stage, the suicide setting is better as it enables to relaunch easily, but what about at the beginning?

Can you actually unhooked a 5 line kite with standard setting leash (on the 5th line) without killing all the power of the kite?

Thanks for your insights, might help to look a bit less stupid on the water

ride suicide. Never heard of anyone starting to learn to unhook that has their gear set up to flag out. You'll most likely get yourself in more trouble (especially at brighton) if your kite flags and then flips through wrapping the 5th itself etc. Just practice unhooking and then hooking back in and then trying little pops off the water. no need to go for big raleys straight away. enjoy and upgrade the kite when you get a chance

definitely suicide. its only referred to as suicide because back in the day before kites had advanced de power its exactly what it was.. if you have a modern kite with good de power its not at all suicide

What most people do is not full suicide mode too. You should be able to clip your leash to the chicken loop and depower line at the same time like in the photo on this page: www.kitesurf.fr/viewpost_142042.html. This way you can still pull your normal safety if need be without losing your kite.

?? huh? I thought there was only one suicide mode, and that's when you hook into the little ring next to the chicken loop. That picture is effectively the same, ain't it? What suicide modes are there? Noob question, sorry guys. I am still riding hooked.

lol....

With regard to the Sangas link, if you miss a handle pass, you are still going to have to work your way up the leach, to the chicken loop, at which point you can pull loop and flag out to saftey.

You should not be riding suicide if you dont understand the full implications, and steps required to recover....

You should not be riding suicide if it means you are going to put other kiters in danger....

So, pick your time and place to try it out.... you should be comfortable unhooking and have the strength to get back to your bar.
on purpose let go of bar, see how your kite responds.
