I will be staying on wilsons pomontary for a few days in a couple of weeks, are there many local
Kiters there? Any advice on hazards best bits around sandy it looks great on google maps.

Sandy point is great but if the wind is too westerly, its really gusty. Inverloch is nearby so consider kiting there as well. Also heaps of flat water.

Things to be aware of:

Speed of the tide and channel - Its similar to Inverloch, the water moves at up to 8 knots.

Drive down to the beach and then drive all the way and park against the dune. You don't need a 4x4, the sand is pretty hard. Don't drive past the dune, there is normally a sign saying no cars past this point, but if its not there, be aware there is some really soft sludgy sand that could bog down almost any 4x4.

Also be really, really careful of the speed sailors.

Some of them are running for personal bests in the 80 - 95km/h range.

Just be sure that you're checking far enough upwind before heading onto the speed run and you'll be fine.
